One of the guys I hired into Enron Broadband, one of my first data architects when I started building a data science team back before anyone used the phrase “data science”, comes immediately to mind. There’s some setup needed to get to this, bear with me.
When Enron Broadband was taken off the independent IPO path, and merged back into Enron Corp, our incentive stock plan was cashed out into some cash, some RSUs and some options in ENE. I had one of the finance guys build me a big “what if” spreadsheet that showed the value of your holdings at a given stock price, but also gave your estimated net cash out after exercise costs and taxes on what was currently vested based on a given stock price, and circulated that to my team.
Rather than beginning by stating my interpretation, I will present the evidence in a logical sequence, laying down guiderails for you to follow and experience the revelation as though you were discovering it yourself. Now that’s what I call interactive entertainment!
